Final Announcement

posted by Christopher Ferguson   [ updated ]

So it's New Years Eve, to be exact 10 minutes 'til midnight for me. This has been a rather relevant year for many of us, and will especially be remembered in history. As for other less important things, in a matter of minutes the Adobe Flash EOL will end, and they will block Flash from their plugins, for those that still have it installed. For many things, 2020 has been the end of an era, from web plugins to politics. I'll be honest it has been a great experience maintaining the site, even with its up and downs. It was honestly one of the first times I felt like I did something myself.

As of now I have all of the flash content on the site archived and is available here.

A mirror of FergBlocked is also available here. I will be updating it completely, as the last time I mirrored it was August. (Some embeds don't work currently, may be solved with time.)

I will depart off with a link to Bluemaxima Flashpoint, an archivist project that has been around for slightly longer than FergBlocked.

Announcement - 9/8/2020

Back in late Febuary I was chastised for creating a Keep note I had made several months prior that had documentation that Securly openly advertises on its website. The way I was "caught" is due to me reopening it several months later to put it in the archive, only for a teacher to screenshot it. Less than three weeks later all public schooling in my state shut down due to a certain pandemic, one that has consistently gotten more dire as time goes on. Currently things are obviously significantly different, and it appears I am still on thin ice with the technology office at my school district.

Obviously FergBlocked doesn't have much time to exist in its intended form left. After New Year's Eve 2020 Adobe will end support of Adobe Flash Player (as I've noted consistently over the last two years). Thankfully I'm almost done archiving the flash games on it. Along with that, Google sent an email on August 6th detailing a shutdown timeline for Google Sites, which means after November 1st you won't be able to edit currently existing Sites and after September 1, 2021 Google will shutdown currently existing sites and download them to their Drive.

Thankfully for Adobe Flash a project called BlueMaxima Flashpoint exists with the soul intention of archiving Flash files. I hope in time something like that can be created for Google Sites, though it seems one by Archive Team is plausible. In the meantime I'll backup FergBlocked to Github Pages or Neocites (probably both) I'll make a new announcement if I have a well running backup. After that, I'll be done with this project. For the site itself it has been an excellent last two years and after I think I'll miss still working on it at times, even with the stressors involved.

Known Issues & Updates - 10/5/19

posted Oct 5, 2019, 3:03 PM by Christopher Ferguson   [ updated Nov 24, 2019, 6:08 PM]

Alright, one of the most important things on people's minds is how after December 20 2020 Flash will no longer work through Google Chrome, which is a giant concern for me. As of currently, I am planning on making an 'archive' of sorts to make sure the swf files for much of the flash games on this site (and others) are downloadable, a long with a player so you can play them outside of web browsers.

I'm glad that some of the larger games on this site, Tanki, already has been updated to HTML5 by it's developers. I'll try to add that version of the game very soon.
Beyond that, this essentially comes as a notification that the site is still being updated.

In the mean time, I will look into adding more Lucas Arts adventure games.

EDIT: HTML 5 Tanki is done. Unfortunately full screen doesn't work, which I will look into.

FergBlocked Transparency Report 9/8/19

posted Sep 8, 2019, 9:16 PM by Christopher Ferguson   [ updated Sep 12, 2019, 8:16 PM]

So it's a new school year, and a pleasant surprise was that Google Sites and Youtube were unblocked (probably because both contain educational material). The site UnblockedWiki, formally known as Project Catalog has been coming nicely, up until a few days ago when it got IP banned. At this current moment it appears that FergBlocked will be blocked very soon, and considering I was threatened with "disciplinary action" if I make a second website to take the place of the original. So, at this point I have shut down backups of the site.

This means that the main FergBlocked site will cease being updated until further notice and access to other unblocked games websites will probably decrease dramatically as students seemingly lose even less privacy when it comes to district administered Chromebooks. Like I said in the email I sent out last school year, when Google Sites and Youtube got temporarily blocked in their entirety, a new era for unblocked games at this school district seems to have fallen upon us.

Seeing that I am in a difficult situation with the Technology Office at my local school district right now, no one should expect anything new from me in terms of the creation/indexing of unblocked games websites for the foreseeable future. For those wanting to create an unblocked games website of their own, take FergBlocked as a cautionary tale on why you shouldn't have your site directly tied to you, and why you should not develop said site on the devices you were provided with by the school district/work place you made it for.

EDIT: As of 9/12/19, I have decided against abandoning FergBlocked as the main reason that I ever got in trouble in the first place was over UnblockedWiki, which is now completely blocked. If this site does get blocked eventually, a new announcement will be made. You can expect more games and updates soon.

Known Issues & Updates - 5/1/19

I'm aware that in the last month not a whole lot of games have been added in the last month, and I apologize for that.

Besides that, I'm glad to say that Zombs Royale has been added (technically) and it's issues will be hopefully be panned out tonight.

Death of Adobe Flash and the Future of FergBlocked

posted Jan 31, 2019, 11:09 AM by Christopher Ferguson   [ updated Sep 13, 2019, 6:16 PM]

In 2017, Adobe announced that it would be fazing Flash out by the end of 2020. This is problematic to FergBlocked and many other Unblocked Games sites that revolve around the old google sites. The reason that it's an issue is that a large portion of this site's catalog is based on Adobe Flash. Due to that, alternatives may need to be found in time. Along side with that, I intend to move away from google sites. More information will be revealed soon.

Slow integration of Tanki Center

posted Jan 28, 2019, 9:05 AM by Christopher Ferguson   [ updated Sep 12, 2019, 7:37 PM]

I'm announcing that on February 5th, 2019 (Taco Tuesday) Tanki Center will be fully migrated to FergBlocked. The reasoning for this is that FergBlocked got completely over shadowed.

Forums are now up!
